Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)

Your Body’s Healing Power, Reimagined for Skin Health

At Radiance Wellness in San Diego near Hillcrest and Bankers Hill, we believe the most effective skin rejuvenation treatments come from within. Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) is a cutting-edge regenerative therapy that uses your own blood—specifically, your platelets, white blood cells, and a fibrin matrix—to stimulate collagen production, improve skin texture, and accelerate the natural healing process.¹

PRF is often compared to Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), but here’s the difference: PRF contains a fibrin scaffold that allows for a slower release of growth factors, extending and enhancing the benefits for your skin, hair, and overall wellness.²

Book a consultation today

Whether used alone or paired with treatments like microneedling, BOTOX®, or laser, PRF offers a holistic, biologically compatible approach to skin rejuvenation—with long-lasting results and no synthetic additives.

PRF is created through a simple blood draw. Your sample is spun in a specialized centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets and regenerative components. These are suspended in a fibrin-rich network that works like a “time-release” system, supporting tissue regeneration over several days rather than hours.

At Radiance Wellness, our PRF treatments are performed by experienced medical providers and tailored to your aesthetic goals:

1. Microneedling with PRF
Combines the collagen-boosting benefits of microneedling with PRF’s potent growth factors. PRF is delivered directly through microchannels to enhance healing, improve skin texture, minimize acne scars, and address pigmentation.

  • Best for: Melasma, acne scars, pigmentation, fine lines, signs of aging.
  • Treatment plan: 3–6 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart; for age management, 4–6 sessions every 12 weeks.

2. PRF EZ Gel
A 100% natural alternative to dermal filler, PRF EZ Gel transforms your own blood into a gel-like consistency for subtle facial rejuvenation. Ideal for the under-eye area, dark circles, and restoring volume in the temples, nasolabial folds, cheeks, and jawline.

  • Best for: Patients not suited for traditional fillers or who prefer natural enhancement.
  • Treatment plan: 3 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart; yearly maintenance for optimal results.

3. PRF Injections
Targeted PRF injections for areas like the under-eyes, neck, and décolleté to improve elasticity, refine texture, and support collagen and elastin production—without adding volume.

  • Treatment plan: 3 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart; yearly maintenance.

4. PRF for Hair Restoration

PRF hair restoration uses your body’s own regenerative growth factors to awaken dormant follicles, encourage new growth, and reduce hair shedding—naturally. It’s an excellent option for those experiencing early to moderate androgenetic hair loss (male or female pattern thinning), stress-related shedding, or post-partum hair loss. Because PRF works with your body’s natural healing process, it helps improve hair density and scalp health over time.

  • Treatment plan: 3 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart, then a 4-month booster with yearly maintenance.

PRF at a Glance

Once prepared, PRF is applied or injected into your treatment areas. This stimulates stem cells, collagen, and elastin production, triggering skin rejuvenation and tissue regeneration from the inside out.

Because PRF is derived entirely from your own biology, the risk of allergic reactions is extremely low. Over the following weeks, your skin becomes smoother, firmer, and more radiant—without looking overdone.

How PRF Works: Regeneration from the Inside Out

Benefits of PRF

  • Improves skin tone, texture, and firmness³
  • Smooths fine lines and early wrinkles
  • Brightens and thickens under-eye skin
  • Minimizes acne scars and enlarged pores
  • Supports healing after microneedling or laser
  • Stimulates hair growth and improves hair density
  • Provides natural anti-aging results

What to Expect

Preparing for Treatment
Because PRF is created from your own blood, the quality of that blood directly impacts your results. In the days leading up to your appointment:

  • Avoid blood-thinning medications or supplements for at least 48 hours (only if cleared by your physician)
  • Avoid alcohol for 48 hours
  • Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water
  • Follow a healthy, low-fat diet to support optimal platelet quality

These simple steps help ensure your PRF contains the highest concentration of platelets, growth factors, and healing components for the best possible outcome.

Treatment
A small blood draw is performed. The sample is spun in a medical-grade centrifuge to create your PRF. Depending on your chosen therapy—PRF injections, PRF EZ Gel, or microneedling with PRF—a numbing cream may be applied for comfort.

Recovery Time & Aftercare
Downtime is minimal. You may experience mild swelling, redness, or tenderness, which resolves quickly. Your provider will give you tailored aftercare to protect your results.

FAQs

How is PRF different from PRP?

Both platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) come from your own blood and use your body’s growth factors to stimulate collagen production and healing. PRF is spun in the centrifuge at a lower speed, which preserves more white blood cells and a fibrin matrix. This allows for a slower, sustained release of growth factors, extending the benefits for skin rejuvenation and hair restoration.

Is PRF safe?

Yes. Because PRF is made entirely from your own biology—with no synthetic additives—the risk of allergic reactions is extremely low. This makes it a safe, natural option for most people seeking facial rejuvenation or hair growth treatments.

How many PRF treatments will I need?

The number of sessions depends on your chosen PRF therapy and your aesthetic goals. Most patients benefit from a series of 2–6 sessions, followed by yearly maintenance for long-lasting results. For hair restoration, we recommend 3 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart, then a 4-month booster with yearly maintenance.
Discomfort is generally minimal. We use topical numbing and gentle injection techniques to ensure your comfort. Most patients describe the experience as very tolerable, with only mild pressure or a pinch during treatment.

What can PRF treat?

PRF is versatile and can improve skin texture, smooth fine lines, reduce dark circles under the eyes, minimize acne scars, stimulate hair growth, and even add subtle volume with EZ Gel.

Does PRF hurt?

We use numbing cream before most PRF treatments to keep you comfortable. You may feel light pressure or a quick pinch during PRF injections, but most patients describe it as very tolerable.

What is the recovery time?

Downtime is minimal. You might experience mild redness, swelling, or tenderness in the treatment area for 1–2 days. Aftercare guidelines—like avoiding strenuous activity, makeup, or saunas for the first 24–48 hours—help ensure optimal results.

Can I combine PRF with other treatments?

Absolutely. PRF enhances the effects of microneedling, laser treatments, BOTOX®, and injectables by supporting healing and amplifying collagen production. Your provider will help design a treatment plan that combines modalities for your unique skin or hair goals.
